Allianz Australia needed to meet a contract-mandated deadline for implementing new analytical reporting capabilities. Using Sybase technology, it handily met the aggressive timeline while enabling new initiatives, once considered too costly and time consuming.
Facing an Aggressive Deadline
Allianz Australia’s core business purpose is the financial security of their customers, offering property, casualty, life and health insurance and asset management to a customer base of about 60 million in more than 70 countries.
It faced a contract-mandated deadline to implement claims processing analytical reporting functionality and off-load analytics and reporting from its existing claims processing system to protect transaction response times. Using Sybase’s Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) database, Sybase IQ, Sybase Industry Warehouse Studio™ (IWS) and Sybase Professional Services, Allianz Australia had the technology necessary to accomplish both objectives.
Sybase delivered a proof of concept that succeeded in reducing the pressures on the project team to work a miracle. “The proof of concept proved that Sybase IWS was really going to help us shorten our time frame,” said Karen Scroope, IT services manager, host systems. Seeing the success of the system’s pieces working together reassured decision-makers that their aggressive timeline was indeed achievable.
“Probably One of the Fastest Data Warehouse Implementations in History”
In an eight-week period, Allianz Australia implemented a completely new data warehouse and developed analytical reporting capabilities, leveraging the suite of pre-built business intelligence templates in Sybase IWS.
“From October to December we achieved the complete implementation of our data warehouse infrastructure, complete with scalability to support our future needs,” said Scott Wyld, project manager, Allianz Australia. “This was probably one of the fastest data warehouse implementations in history.”
Client risks were reduced and new system processing capabilities were added. Daily data feeds from a Windows-based claims processing system move to tables in Sybase’s ASE database and are routed to Sybase IQ for warehousing and analytics. Sybase IWS provides a powerful data model and mitigates risk by offering customizable packages for quick data warehouse implementation.
Sybase Enabling New Initiatives
New initiatives, previously considered too costly and time consuming, are now in progress with proven Sybase IWS reduced timelines and increased effectiveness. Furthermore, communication between the IT team and business users improved.
“Most businesses don’t want IT to disappear into a back room for nine to 12 months, then come out and say ‘Look what we’ve done!’” Wyld said. “Businesses want visibly fast results, which is what we’ve given them with Sybase IQ and Industry Warehouse Studio.”
