Webcast Series Sessions:

  • .NET Development with SQL Anywhere and Visual Studio - on Demand
  • Full Text Search in SQL Anywhere - on Demand
  • Capacity Planning with SQL Anywhere - on Demand
Each webcast will feature a SQL Anywhere expert who will teach you new strategies to enhance your database solution.

All webcasts will begin at 11 AM EST and will have a duration of one hour. The webcasts will conclude with a question and answer session. In addition, technical staff will be on hand to answer online questions throughout the presentation.

Title: .NET Development with SQL Anywhere and Visual Studio - on Demand
Speaker: Jose Ramos

This webcast provides an overview of how to use Visual Studio to develop SQL Anywhere applications both for the desktop and for the web. The session includes an overview of ADO.NET, the data access API in the .NET Framework, and demonstrates SQL Anywhere's support for the most recent features of Visual Studio 2008 including LINQ (Language Integrated Query) and the Entity Framework. Other topics include .NET synchronization logic and new features of SQL Anywhere 11 that apply directly to the .NET platform, such as the CLR external environment and ASP.NET providers.

Title: Full Text Search in SQL Anywhere - on Demand
Speaker: Glenn Paulley

This webcast describes how application developers can exploit the new full text search capabilities in SQL Anywhere 11. You’ll learn how full text indexes are built, how they are maintained, and how full text search results can be combined with ordinary SQL search conditions in the same SQL query to provide a high-performance, integrated search solution for both structured and semi-structured data.

Title: Capacity Planning with SQL Anywhere - on Demand
Speaker: Glenn Paulley

This webcast provides an overview of issues to consider when designing a performance evaluation of SQL Anywhere. You’ll discover how to avoid potential pitfalls when designing a benchmark based on a specific database application. We will address issues related both to the construction of a model database instance and a model application workload. We will also outline an approach to construct a model of performance to determine the relative importance of various performance factors, such as database cache size and the server multiprogramming level. Examples will be given to illustrate the potential of negative scalability that can occur when executing concurrent requests in an SMP environment, and how these scenarios can be generated easily by artificial contention caused by poorly-defined workloads.
