Alerts and Information-on-Demand Services
Create SMS Subscriptions
and Pull Services for SMS Content
Subscribers can opt in to receive mobile services such as
horoscopes, news, weather, traffic information and sports updates
through alerts. An initial message thanks the subscriber for opting in,
and subsequent messages provide the requested mobile updates. Messages
can be scheduled to be sent and received at any time on a daily or
weekly basis.
Information-on-Demand (IOD) is a pull service that lets
subscribers request content to be immediately sent to their mobile
devices. This content is most often a ringtone, wallpaper or sports
score update. The service is configured so that messages are delivered
based on a trigger — either a shortcode request, Wireless
Application Protocol (WAP) or via the Web.
Features
- Set a time and date broadcast
schedule or send on demand
- Content sources can be URLs
instead of text. URLs are generally used to deliver live information
(such as live weather alerts from weather.com). As the Website updates,
so will the scheduled information sent to subscribers
- Alpha Originating Address (OA)
can be used to enter an alternate address, overwriting the originating
address in the text message. In this way, subscribers can see the brand
representing the message in their inboxes
- Administrators can include a
double opt-in, which can include the terms and conditions for the
service
- Pre- and post-service messages
can be added before the service has started and after it has completed
- Comprehensive reporting allows
administrators to view all messages by day, hour or in
total—both sent and pending—and to edit pending
messages
Benefits
- On-demand (pull) and
subscriber services (push)—the two most lucrative forms of
mobile service—can be easily managed using the Sybase 365 Web
interface
- Subscribers can easily opt-in
and out, conforming to industry codes of conduct
- Content can be originated from
a URL that updates itself (or is updated via the application interface)
- Alerts can be sent daily or
weekly
