If you are looking for a quick solution to optimize your ASE or Replication Server environment – whether you are thinking about migrating or already have – while also addressing performance or stability issues, Sybase has the product experts for you.
Objectives
The HealthCheck for ASE and Replication Server Service Package is designed to assess the architecture, configuration and operating environment of your ASE and Replication Server deployment so you can attain a high-performing implementation based on best practices. Working closely with your staff, Sybase consultants will explore production systems to determine if the installed Sybase products are leveraged for their best use.
There are four phases for this service offering:
- Phase 1 involves reviewing the ASE and Replication Server architecture, configuration, infrastructure and performance
- Phase 2 includes a detailed analysis of the ASE and Replication Server environment, system testing and review. It results in documented findings and recommendations.
- Phases 3 and 4 are optional phases designed to implement a portion or all of the documented recommendations.
High-Level Activities
- Perform a "health check" of the targeted ASE and Replication Server installation to determine the current state of Sybase server performance, as well as identify potential issues and limitations
- Provide mentorship to the DBA staff in the areas of performance, tuning and best practices for ASE and Replication Server implementations
- Document findings and recommendations; provide a roadmap for implementing the recommendations
Delivery Tasks
This service requires considerable participation from the customer, both at the management and operational levels.

Pre-engagement
|
Customer to provide:
- A documented problem statement and understanding of business impact of replication latency issues
- Sample sp_sysmon reports as specified by Sybase consultant
- Installation of Sybase internal monitoring tables in production or customer-designated target system
- ASE and Replication system architecture documentation
|
|
Phase 1:
Initial system architecture and configuration review
|
Sybase staff will conduct a review of the ASE and Replication system architecture and assess the detailed configuration of the infrastructure related to:
- Operating system, patch levels and kernel settings
- Current hardware and hardware upgrade plans
- Current ASE and Replication Server version and patch levels
- Storage configuration (file systems/raw devices and striping)
- Network considerations
- ASE and Replication Server configuration
Included is a review of various performance reports (such as Sysmon and Snapshot), as well as replication monitors and counters over a 24-hour period.
|
|
Phase 2:
Detailed evaluation of ASE and Replication Server environment
|
Based on data obtained from utilities such as sp_sysmon, optdiag, the Sybase consultant's toolkit, and replication monitoring and counter analysis, Sybase will perform a detailed evaluation of the ASE and Replication Server environment. Detailed findings and recommendations will be documented and validated with project stakeholders.
|
|
Phase 3:
Partial implementation (optional)
