AT&T Connect is the online delivery system for your SyberLearning LIVE lecture. AT&T Connect Participant is the client application used to attend the event session.
How do I join the lecture session?
| |
You will receive an email invitation for each day of the class. Open the invitation specific to the day of your event and click the entry link in the first paragraph: "Click here to enter with your PC at the scheduled start time."
Do I need a login and password to attend the lecture?
| |
No - the invitation link contains your unique identifier for that day's session.
When do I get my invitations?
| |
Invitations are generated after the majority of the students have completed the set up of their computers, usually on Thursday before the class start date.
What are my requirements to attend a SyberLearning LIVE class?
| |
You must agree to the Terms & Conditions and prepare your computer in advance. Your computer must be a Windows PC with Internet Explorer installed, and it must have broadband access to the Internet.
Is SyberLearning LIVE really interactive? Am I able to ask questions?
Yes - it is interactive. During both the lecture and lab portions of the course, an instructor is "with" you. You can ask questions by raising your hand or sending your instructor a "Question Note" alert, and when recognized, your instructor will have you ask your question. |
Is the material delivered in a SyberLearning LIVE class the same quality, complexity and depth of a standard Instructor-Led class? |
SyberLearning LIVE is delivered by the same highly-qualified certified instructors using the same quality materials and labs as the Learning Center courses. You will learn just as much as any student attending an Instructor-led class in a Sybase Learning Center. We will ship the student materials to you 3 days prior to your class. For lecture only classes, you will download the materials to your PC. Student materials are normally delivered Wednesday or Thursday before the class start date. If you haven't received your materials by Thursday afternoon, contact us for assistance. |
I received my headset already. Why weren't my student materials in the same box? |
| |
We send first time SyberLearning LIVE students a headset directly from Sybase. Your student materials are sent from our printing vendor in Canada. |
What are the courses offered via SyberLearning LIVE? |
| |
We have an entire curriculum ready for you via SyberLearning LIVE. To view the entire listing of currently offered courses, go to our online Course Catalog and select SyberLearning LIVE delivery format. |
How can I register? |
| |
Register on the web, or in North America, call your education consultant at 800-8SYBASE option 2. |
What happens after I register? |
| |
Once you are registered, you will receive a Confirmation Email notification from your Education Telesales Representative. The Thursday before your class start date you will receive one invitation for each day of your SyberLearning Live class. |
What should I do if I need to cancel my class at the last minute? |
| |
Send a message to your Sybase Education Telesales Representative directly. This is the only person who can help you with reservations. |
Can I forward my invitations or move them to a personal folder? |
| |
No - you cannot forward or copy your invitations. Doing so will invalidate your identifier and you won't be able to use the invitation to enter your session. Moving your invitations to a personal folder will also invalidate your identifier. You must use the invitations as received in your inbox. |
Will my "Out of Office" message interfere with the system? |
| |
If you enable an "Out of Office" reply, be sure you will still receive your invitations during the class timeframe. If necessary, create an exception for messages from sybase.com. |
I started my setup but didn't finish it. What will happen? |
| |
You will get an email reminding you to complete your setup before your invitations will be sent. If you can't complete your setup immediately, follow the directions on the email. |
Are there any software or system requirements for SyberLearning? |
| |
For all Sybase Products including Adaptive Server Enterprise, Adaptive Server Anywhere, PowerBuilder or PowerDesigner classes, you can use the Sybase Education Remote Virtual PC Lab Environment containing all the required software or you may use an appropriate locally installed version of the software on your PC. If you do not wish to use the Remote Virtual PC Lab Environment, please review the course description for information on what software is required to participate, or visit the Sybase e-Shop for more information on purchasing the appropriate software. |
What kind of network connection (56K, DSL, Broadband, etc...) do I need to participate in SyberLearning LIVE? |
| |
SyberLearning LIVE works best with DSL, Cable Modem, Corporate LAN connection, or other broadband Internet access. |
What are Juniper and RDC? |
| |
Juniper is the network gateway that allows you to access our remote lab infrastructure. RDC is the Microsoft Remote Desktop Client, which lets you remotely control your assigned Windows desktop. |
What is the Virtual Machine (VM)? |
| |
The remote Windows desktop you will use for labs is running as a virtual workstation, sharing a larger underlying hardware system with other virtual machines. You won't notice any difference from the desktop of a normal hardware PC. |
How do I set up for my class? |
| |
Setting up for your class is easy. We also strongly recommend that you verify that your computer meets or exceeds the SyberLearning LIVE requirements. |
I set up my office computer already, but I might take the class from home. Do I need to do anything else? |
| |
Yes - (1) if you'll be using a different computer, you must complete the entire set up again on your home computer, and (2) you must ensure receipt of your invitations at an email address accessible from home. Note: You can only use one email address for class, so be sure you have clear access to that email regardless of which computer you use. Send an e-mail to sllsupport@sybase.com with an alternate e-mail address if necessary to receive and access your invitations. |
Can I get help with the lab section? |
| |
During labs, not only can you ask questions, but the instructor can guide you through your lab work of any difficult portions. |
Do I need a login and password to work on lecture and labs? |
| |
During the first day of class, the instructor will send you all the information you need to connect to the lab infrastructure. For the lecture, you won't need a username or password. If your class has lab work, your instructor will give you the connection information during the first class session. |
AT&T Connect won't install on my machine. How can I narrow down the problem? |
| |
Verify the following items:
- Use Internet Explorer and have it set as your default browser.
- If you see a yellow warning bar at the top of the IE window asking to install an ActiveX control, agree to that.
- Log into Windows with an account that has full administrator rights to your system.
- Disable all pop-up blockers on your system.
I verified the above items but the problem is still occurring. What else can I do? |
| |
Try the following steps:
- Temporarily turn off all security and firewall software, including Windows Firewall.
- In IE, go to the Tools menu > Internet Options > Security tab > Internet > Custom Level. Be sure all the ActiveX security settings are set to Enabled or Prompt.
- In IE Options, also go to the Connections tab > LAN Settings. Be sure both of the Automatic options are unchecked. If your network has a proxy server, be sure the option is selected at the bottom of the dialog, and enter your proxy info there.
| I'm still having trouble with the AT&T Connect lecture session and want to report the problem. What information should I provide? |
Send an email to sllsupport@sybase.com with a description of your problem and answers to the following questions:

What happens if I need to step away from class for a few minutes? |
