Most companies recognize that their IT infrastructure’s total cost of ownership is not limited to costs associated with hardware and software acquisition. Other cost drivers include the resources required to manage server sprawl, the cost of underutilized computing resources and the staffing stresses created when service level requirements increase without a simultaneous budget increase. Companies are also looking to reduce infrastructure redundancies, save floor space and cut back skyrocketing utility costs. Consolidating applications onto a few large, scalable servers enables more efficient management, can dramatically reduce the total cost of ownership for your IT environment and can improve IT service levels. To address these needs, Sybase Consulting offers a Server Consolidation Service to help determine if consolidating servers makes business sense for your company. We can assist you with all phases of a server consolidation project - from evaluating the business case, to designing and implementing the consolidated architecture.
Objectives
High-level Activities
Phase I –> Discovery - Analysis of current data and application architecture To evaluate the business case and financial benefits for server consolidation, our consultants will review your current operational infrastructure’s capacity, taking into consideration your goals and current and future server requirements. They will document their findings in a Pilot Consolidation Project Blueprint deliverable that includes: Phase II –> Pilot Consolidation – Design and Delivery of the Pilot Project Our consultants will create a detailed design plan that prioritizes specific actions you should take to build a fundamentally sound, standards-based framework for your IT organization. The finished plan will present key IT strategies, policies and practices, as well as metrics and methodologies drawn from industry-leading practices. We'll then help you put your new computing environment into production quickly and efficiently, working through to testing and deployment. Best practices will be documented. Phase III –> Enterprise Consolidation – Extend consolidation across the organization. In this final phase, Sybase consultants plan enterprise-wide consolidation and review assumptions and goals based on the pilot project results. Consolidation proceeds through business units and locations until it is completed.
