Sybase, South Korea Share Big Moments at Sybase Classic Week It might be said that Sybase and South Korea have much in common.

Take for example, a short history of last week. On Wednesday, May 13, John Chen, Sybase CEO, and Seung An Park, executive vice president at South Korea's Samsung SDS, played golf in the Sybase Classic pro-am. On Thursday, Sybase announced a partnership to deliver Samsung SDS Enterprise Mobile Services based on the Sybase Unwired Platform, and then on Sunday, South Korea's Ji Young Oh won the Sybase Classic.

Some of it was scripted, of course, but there's also the element of the unknown that came into play to make it come together.

‘Stock Trade Companies Reel Under Need for Speed’ –Analyst

The financial services industry is reeling under the combined problems of high volume, great velocity and the need for speed in stock trading systems, a Tower Group researcher, Dushyant Shahrawat, told analysts attending a launch event for Sybase RAP—The Trading Edition with Time Series at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday.

Shahrawat said that quantitative analyst and statistical arbitrage firms involved in hundreds of thousands of securities held for days or just seconds requiring significant computational trading and IT infrastructure are pushing the envelope of trading technology.

He was addressing a crowd of more than 100 analysts and financial services industry professionals who gathered at the NYSE to hear how Sybase’s hot new product for real-time risk analytics will perform when it is released early in Q3.

‘Partners Who Golf Together, Stay Together’ say Sybase and Samsung SDS

Sybase and Samsung SDS After teeing off at 7:30 a.m. with John Chen, Sybase Chairman, President and CEO, and Lorena Ochoa, three-time Sybase Classic winner, in the official pro-am on Wednesday, Seung An Park, executive vice president at Samsung SDS, played 18 holes of golf and then signed into a partnership that takes another step towards achieving Sybase’s vision of a world of unwired enterprises.

"I enjoyed the golf," said Park, “after the signing ceremony of a memorandum of agreement with Dr. Raj Nathan, Sybase Chief Marketing Officer, at the 108-year-old Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, New Jersey, "and I'm going to enjoy partnering with Sybase even more."

Park rounded out his day by also participating in the five-hour inaugural Sybase Mobility Thought Leadership Council Meeting, held in conjunction with the Sybase Classic, to discuss the status and direction enterprise mobility is heading.
